Teething, traveling, fun
Jane is teething hella hard and I feel really bad. I know its those upper front teeth as her gums are quite swelled there. She is happy for ages and then goes into angry crank uncomfortable baby syndrome. She doesn't want to nurse or be held a certain way-- she just squirms and squirms and cries-- but yet she doesn't want me to put her down she just crawls after me and lifts her arms up to me. It's so frustrating... but its not her fault, obviously. It must be tough. She's finding naps hard because she gets herself worked up. She's congested and I think its sore to nurse and eat because she hasn't had much desire for solid foods and she is biting a bit. I might go down to the pharmacy later and see about baby tylenol? I hate given her something like that but the Teetha gel might as well be water because it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference.

I just want her to be over it before we go on the flight! Bah. Mostly the congestion, because I know it could be painful for her (ears) during takeoff/landing.

I'm sorting out the luggage situation. It's more of a deal on the way back because we are not bringing much over. Looks like domestic flights now only allow one checked bag free but international flights are still allowed 2 bags checked. I'm curious if Jane gets any checked luggage. We still have to buy her ticket which makes me nervous-- when we called they said we pay for her when we check in o_O ... as a rule I don't trust airlines not to fuck up things like this. I will call again soon.

Are you flying Aer Lingus? I can't believe you need a ticket for Jane! When Aidan and I were looking into moving back, and I thought I might have been pregnant, we researched the baby stuff, and Aer Lingus didn't make you pay for an "infant in arms".

You should look into an amber teething necklace for Jane. I didn't believe they worked, but I bought one for my friend's baby because she was at her wit's end, and she said she didn't know it if was working until she took it off her son and forgot it was off for a while. She said he was a completely different baby, and as soon as she put it back on him, he calmed down again.

Have fun traveling! It's friggin hot here right now. I was down in Crystal River last weekend and got burned to a crisp, even with sunscreen. :/

We're going Delta. It's crap. It'd be free if it were a domestic flight but we have to pay "taxes and fees" bah.

I have a necklace that is SUPPOSED to be coming to my parents-- a cool amber goddess pendant that I was hoping Jane could use-- but the etsy seller has become a ghost and I didn't get the necklace yet :(

Crystal River yay! I don't mind crispy, not right now! You should come back out to Crystal River when we're around!

Bleh, I really dislike Delta. Flying Delta was the most unpleasant experience in air travel I've had recently. Their seats are smaller than average, and their staff is ruder than average.

To get around the one checked bag for domestic travel rule, I suggest you bring at least one carry on that is as large as is allowed. (A small rolling suitcase works well.) I think that if you do have to buy a ticket for Jane, she does get a baggage allowance. Check the Delta website.

Be sure to check out the TSA website for explanations of what liquid things you're allowed to bring when traveling with a baby, if you aren't already familiar with those regulations. Even if you are it's always a good idea to review them.

Anything that will get Jane to swallow will help her with any ear discomfort. For the teething you might try one of those gel rings, they allow those on planes. Good luck, I hope that she doesn't have much congestion when you fly, it would hurt and would probably mean a crying child, which is no fun for anyone.

That's strange-- I have flown several times with American Airlines and have not been please. I flew once with Delta and found it more enjoyable! AA has given me trouble with my passport in the past, and I've had to get angry and firmly tell them they are not immigration and immigration will know how to handle me.

Looks like as long as we are international we have 2 bag allowance. We're lucky enough that we don't have a lot of things to bring for Jane (other than diapers). I'm hoping she won't be too distracted and she'll nurse while we take off and land. She was amazing when we went over in December but its just the teething that makes me nervous now.
